Image Processing and Recognition

	Handwriting Recognition - We are exploring a new approach to offline handwriting recognition.
	OCR of Headstones - While optical character recognition (OCR) with images of cleanly-printed documents is basically a solved problem, OCR of words found in photographs is not. We are exploring methods of segmenting and recognizing text from the noisy backgrounds of cemetery headstones to aid genealogists and family historians.
	Document Image Processing and Enhancement - We continue to explore better ways to process document images.
	Document Image Compression - Scanning and archiving digital microfilm or other large image collections requires enormous amounts of storage. We are researching domain-specific compression methods to drastically reduce the amount of storage needed for these types of projects.
	Face recognition and Biometrics - We are doing some research in face recognition and multi-modal biometrics combining face, fingerprint, iris and DNA.
